Hani Talat: Pioneering Skateboarding in Cairo

Introduction to Skateboarding

Hani Talat began his skateboarding journey in 2007, inspired by the popular video game Tony Hawk Proving Ground, released in 2006. His first skateboard was purchased from an international skate shop, and at that time, he was unaware of the vibrant skateboarding community in Egypt. However, Hani soon connected with local skaters in Cairo, igniting his passion not only for skating but also for filming skateboarding culture.

Creating a Skateboarding Legacy

During a period when many of the original skaters had stepped back from the scene, Hani collaborated with fellow skaters to create Cairo’s first full-length skate film, titled “Cairo’s ComeBack.” This project, which took three years to complete, served as a metaphor for the resurgence of the skateboarding community in Cairo. The film premiered at ElSawi Culture Wheel in 2010 and played a crucial role in revitalizing local interest in skateboarding.

Career in Cinematography and Industry Insights

After the success of “Cairo’s ComeBack,” Hani pursued a career in cinematography and filmmaking. He worked with Dynamics, a major skate shop in Dubai, where he gained extensive knowledge of the global skateboarding industry. His experience includes collaborations with renowned brands such as Deluxe, Thrasher, Crailtap, KEEN, Diamond, Magenta, and many others. Hani has also hosted international professional skate teams, further solidifying his place in the skateboarding world.
